Lambo’s 4.0-litre V8 Engine Will Only Be Used In Urus

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed that the new 4.0-litre V8 engine that will power the Lamborghini Urus SUV won’t find its way into other Lamborghini supercars. This is exciting news as it appears Lamborghini are only one of a few car manufacturers that are holding on to big V10 and V12 engines.

One Car, One Engine

Stephan Winkelmann admitted that there had been discussion about using the engine in other models, but Lamborghini choose to stick with their  ‘one car, one engine’ philosophy. Thankfully, they realised that the V10 & V12 engines in the Huracán and Aventador are more suitable to the supercars; and are desirable items.

On the supersports cars we are convinced that the choices we have made with the naturally aspirated engines are still the right ones. – Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann

We are not saying that future engines will never beat what we have in our cars; we are saying as long as there is nothing that is better, especially at low revs or in terms of the sound that the V10 and V12 have, we stick to them. – Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann

Fastest Vehicle In Its Class

Only this month did Lamborghini confirm that the new 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 engine would be the engine of choice for the Urus. As ever, we don’t know the performance figures at this stage but Lamborghini say it will be the fastest vehicle in its class. Personally, I would expect no less.
