Living With The Volvo V60 Cross Country D4 AWD

After spending one week with the Volvo V60 there were many things I loved about the car and sometimes it takes time to notice the little things.

Awesome Adaptive Cruise Control

I got to test out the car on the motorway doing a 120 mile trip down to London. This was a great opportunity to test out the adaptive cruise control system, which will keep a safe distance from the car in front, up to the maximum speed you set. If the car in front of you slows down or comes to a complete stop the Volvo will safely control the speed of the car to keep you at that safe distance. This system works flawlessly and can really make a long motorway journey a complete delight.

The adaptive cruise control will also work at much slower speeds, for example whilst in heavy traffic. So if you are caught in crawling traffic you can allow the car to do the thinking for you and keep the car safely moving along. See some footage of the car in mega London traffic below.

I Love Keyless Entry

The car has luxuries such as keyless entry and start, meaning you can approach the car, unlock it, get in and go, all without touching the key, just as long as it is in your pocket. Simple things like this just make the car a lot easier to live with. I like to think that in the future this technology will move over to phones also, so we may only have a couple of years of physical keys left now.

V60 Style

I’m certainly a fan of the design of the current generation of the Volvo range, and the V60 is one of the best looking of them all. Starting with the front of the car, I love the updates to the central grill, the grooves in the bonnet, and the lower bumper details. The Volvo’s good looks continue all the way to the rear, and being the Cross Country version you will notice there is a twin exhaust system that is surrounded by a rear diffuser adding quite a sporty taste to the car. I think the exterior car design gives a great first impression, and it’s safe to say I like the look of the car overall.

City Safety

One of the major safety features on the Volvo V60 is City Safety. City Safety can help prevent accidents in town at less than 31 mph. It works on a laser-based technology that can sense an impending collision. In the first instance, City Safety prepares the brakes so that they respond faster when you press the pedal. And if you fail to brake, City Safety will apply the brakes for you and switch off the throttle to lessen the effects of a collision. Even better than this, if the difference in speed between your car and the one in front is less than 9 mph, City Safety can prevent a collision from happening in the first place. Brilliant.
