Volkswagen has updated the popular Golf Sportsvan with a more powerful design and technology improvements. The latest regeneration will feature three brand-new efficient TSI petrol engines, and makes its debut at the IAA International Motor Show.
The show takes place in Frankfurt am Maim from the 12th-24th of September. It will showcase all the changes to the Sportsvan, originally released in 2014
A Range of New Features
Other important changes include an expanded range of assistance systems, new generation infotainment systems with touchscreen technology, Traffic Jam Assist steers and automatic braking in stop-and-go traffic.
The Golf Sportsvan’s design has also undergone some changes. These include newly styled bumpers, halogen headlights with LED daytime running lights, full-LED headlights in place of xenon lamps, and standard LED tail-lights on all variations. The interior has also been enhanced, featuring a new decorative trim, fabrics, and leather seats.
Golf Sportsvan – Enhanced Infotainment
Among the exciting technical innovations added is the Discover Pro radio navigation system with 9.2-inch display and gesture control. Conventional buttons and controls are replaced by touchscreen technology and five capacitive touch buttons along the left border of the new infotainment system.
Volkswagen is offering an interface to the infotainment system for tablets and smartphones with the Media Control app. This can be used remotely to control infotainment system functions, regardless of passenger position, just by connecting their device via the car’s WiFi hotspot.
New Security Systems
In terms of security, Volkswagen offers the ‘Security & Service’ package with the all-new Golf Sportsvan. This allows the driver access to assistance in situations such as ‘automatic accident notification’ and ‘roadside service’.
The Golf Sportsvan provides a lot of new features to enhance both comfort and safety. These include Pedestrian Monitoring, a subsection of Front Assist with City Emergency Braking System; Traffic Jam Assist, which provides semi-automated stop-and-go driving up to 60 km/h; Emergency Assist; the latest generation of Park Assist; the proactive occupant protection system; and finally Trailer Assist (including Park Assist), which makes reversing easier when towing.
To complete the planned drive system line-up, there’re two efficient TDI diesel engines and three high-tech TSI petrol engines that come with Active Cylinder Management. This deactivates two of the four cylinders in defined operating phases to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
Advance sales of the updated Golf Sportsvan begin this autumn for Germany.
